Why not lighten your load and use a Kindle for Bible studies? You can take notes, highlight passages, search for words and phrases and interact with scriptural text on a Kindle just as you would with a book or with your Bible. If you think the Kindle is a bit pricey, this list of 25 ways to use the Kindle for Bible study may change your mind about Kindle’s sticker price.

The following list is categorized by reasons to own a Kindle (convenience), Bibles and Bible study search links and a sampling of religious writers who are available on Kindle. All links lead to search options, tools and authors and their achievements.

Convenience

Library in your pocket: This is a main selling point for Logos, and the logic works just as well for Kindle. The Kindle DX is slightly over 1/3 inch thick (about 8.5 mm), and has a 4 GB (3.3 GB user-accessible) storage capacity, which can hold approximately 3500 non-illustrated e-books. If you have that many books in your library at home, you may have already thought about all the room you’d save by using a Kindle.

Expanded file formats: The newer versions of Kindle support more than Kindle’s DRM-protected AZW format. Amazon offers and email-based service that converts JPEG, GIF, PNG and BMP graphics to AZW, as well as HTML and Microsoft Word (DOC) support. The upgrade for Kindle 2 added native PDF support. Use the table on this Wikipedia page to learn more about the formats available for your Kindle.

Free wireless coverage: Coverage for downloading books or to check your email is not available everywhere in the U.S., but this map can provide you with information about Kindle’s coverage. Think about how handy this coverage can be for many classes or for Bible study groups.

Many books are free: The Kindle Store at Amazon as well as many other online sites offer free books. While many are not conducive to Bible study (see resources for Bible study below), the cost of other Kindle books often are well below the cost of a paperback version of that same book.

Sell your books to buy a Kindle: In sum, the convenience of a Kindle is at your fingertips. If you are still balking at the price, take a look at your library like Tim Challies did, and determine what you can sell to pay for the Kindle…many of the books you now own now are available to use on Kindle, so you can make room in your library for other things (like a home-based Bible study group, perhaps?).

Use Kindle on your iPhone: If you don’t want to purchase a Kindle just yet, you can gain access to Kindle books through your iPhone (if you have an iPhone!) with a free iPhone app.

More options for Kindle books: If you don’t own a Kindle or an iPhone, you can gain access to Kindle books through apps for PC computers and for Blackberry devices. If you own a Mac computer, sign up now for notification about an upcoming Mac app that can gain access to Kindle books.

Bibles and Bible Study

If you use the search for “from low to high” prices at any Amazon search page, you may find some free options for Kindle readers. Use these Bibles and study materials as well as other resources (such as Open Courseware Classes) to absorb the Bible to its fullest.

The Christian church is prolific in America, but each church has its own belief systems, guidelines and perspectives. The ecumenical movement seeks to overcome these barriers among churches to unify congregations with cooperation and a better understanding among religions. In that vein, we offer fifty ecumenical blogs, or blogs that seek to overcome church barriers to offer outreach to anyone, no matter their beliefs or creeds.

This universal Christian unity often is found in churches that open their doors to people of various faiths…but that’s not where we went with this list. While some blogs originate from Lutheran or Catholic or even Buddhist backgrounds, the focus is on outreach and a ‘flattening’ of the faith to common ground.

That said, the list below is divided into categories that range from ‘ecumenism in general’ to emergent outreach. In between these categories, you can find blogs that are by and for women, a theological approach and general outreach to a wide range of people. Each link within the categories is listed in alphabetical order to show that we do not favor one blog over another.

There are more online Bible Colleges and Universities today than there were some years back. This can be attributed to the increased demand by people willing to combine their faith with their academic life. There are three probable reasons that can be thought of as the drivers of this bible study frenzy. First, the Christian studies can effectively aid you in expanding your horizon. They can also enhance you career prospects just like any other online study, and finally, they can take your Christian faith to the next level which is the desire of most Christians.

Just like other online colleges in other disciplines, the Christians colleges have been ranked according to their compliance with certain standards which are thought to be the templates of ideal online studies. One of the best online Christian colleges is the prestigious Liberty University which offers Associate’s, Bachelor’s, & Master’s degrees in its online campuses. This Christian-focused College is known for its outstanding faculty teaching together with instilling Christian values to its students through one of the most Christian-oriented curriculum.

At number two we have the Regent University with its Associate’s, bachelor’s & Master’s degrees. This university has more than thirty programs both in undergraduate and graduate levels which are all customized to equip the students with the skills necessary to inspire minds, lives, and also change the world. With the prestigious Regent University you can get any Christian certificate from any part of the world.

Ashford University’s Master’s, Bachelor’s and Associate’s Degrees are some of the most sort-after Christian academic papers due to its reputation as a fountain of excellence in the Christian studies. Regarded has the third best overall in the online Christian studies category, it boasts the widest network of alumni. It’s very common to find an Ashford University graduate almost anywhere the internet is accessible, which is one of the reasons which have fueled its accelerated take-off since its establishment back in 1918.

You cannot talk about online Christian colleges without mentioning the prestigious Grand Canyon University. This university has the unique feature of reaching for the poor and the downtrodden in the society by arming them with Christian values and knowledge through scholarships and grants from donors and the federal government. There is also the LeTourneau University which integrates Christian education with business studies to create a curriculum that produces business leaders who are better placed to appreciate the place of God in the business world. This Christian College curriculum is designed in such a way that business, health or medical students who ultimately graduate from it have Christian values and knowledge in them and therefore their approach to issues is also different.

Benedictine University is also considered one of the best institutions to offer Christian studies in its online campus. It offers Certificates, Masters and Doctorates degree in a Christian community while still allowing students to get advanced level degrees in the high growth industry. One unique thing about its graduates is the values and morals that have been instilled in them which are ideal in today’s working environment.
